The Thorn In The Heart
Michel Gondry
France, 2009, 86’
A chronicle about the matriarch of the Gondry family; the filmmaker’s aunt Suzette Gondry, and her relationship with her son, Jean-Yves. Suzette was a schoolteacher from 1952 to 1986 and she tells Michel what it was like to be a teacher in what was then a rural and isolated part of France. But little by little, Michel discovers some family stories he was totally unaware of and uses his camera to explore them in a subtle but very emotional way.
