As this film marks clearly John Appel has a deeply interest in gambling. His father was an ardent horse player, which brought problems in the family to say the least. Apple’s father wrotw him a letter that is the starting point to an investigation about gambling addicts, portrayed by Appel in different situations, all of them being virtual alter-egos of his father.
