Sakharov Prize – Doclisboa and European Parliament Partnership

Since 2018, Doclisboa has been collaborating with the European Parliament, with the aim of celebrating and promoting the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. The award, which was established in 1988, has rewarded activists, dissidents and defenders of human rights from all over the world.

This year, as a result of this collaboration, an itinerant cinema project has been born, screening 3 films related to human rights. Between July and December, public and school sessions will be held in different venues throughout the country.

The first session starts already next Thursday, July 2nd, at Viseu’s Cine Clube, with ‘Taxi’ by Jafar Panahi.

A yellow cab is driving through the vibrant and colourful streets of Tehran. Very diverse passengers enter the taxi, each candidly expressing their views while being interviewed by the driver, who is no one else but the director Jafar Panahi himself. His camera placed on the dashboard of his mobile film studio captures the spirit of Iranian society through this comedic and dramatic drive.
