Call for entries Doclisboa 2020

Call for entries Doclisboa’20
15.01 – 31.05

Doclisboa – International Film Festival has opened the call for films for its 18th edition, which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 22nd October to 1st November 2020.

Every year, Doclisboa shows around 250 films, hosts around 100 debates, round tables, parallel screenings and meetings and welcomes around 25,000 attendees. For each edition of the festival a programme is built by mapping out ideas, images, memories and filmic gestures, not only to present films to the world, but also to start conversations around them.

Doclisboa is interested in films that offer a singular perspective on cinema and filmmaking. Films that are rigorous about their conceptual and formal implications. Films that are aware of and experiment with cinema’s artistic and political possibilities. Films that refuse to be categorized, that are free in the usage of their modes and cinematic tools. Films that bring in their own fragilities, questions and risks more than a rigid assumption of the world.

Doclisboa carefully considers the submissions that are received in its organization of a programme that presents a diverse range of cinematographic languages, approaches and expressions, originating from different territories. The festival consists of three competitive sections (International Competition, Portuguese Competition and Green Years). These competitive sections are primarily focused on world and international premieres, and are open to films of any length. Doclisboa also hosts five non-competitive sections (New Visions, From the Earth to the Moon, Heart Beat, Cinema of Urgency and Doc Alliance), as well as two annual retrospectives – one dedicated to a specific director and another about a certain theme.

For a more detailed description of each section and the structure of Doclisboa’s programme, please check our Sections page.
