Permanent Travel – Georgia’s Restless Cinema Retrospective
Arabesques on the Pirosmani Theme
Arabeskebi Pirosmanis temaze
Sergei Parajanov
1985 • Georgia (USSR) • 21’
National Premiere

Framed by Parajanov’s look, Niko Pirosmani’s paintings are enlivened, juxtaposed and decomposed, following a by-chapter organisation that visits and intertwines his works like the arabesques in the tile. Exemplifying the perpetual movement cherished by the film-maker, the painter’s universe sneaks through a fantastic land, the antechamber of the capital of Georgia, which stands in the background. The film granted Parajanov an interesting Bright Future Award at Rotterdam.
