Dede

In the mountains of Svanetia, a young widow tries not to part with her son, whom she must abandon in case a suitor declares her his. Two tragedies led her to this situation, which doesn’t seem about to improve. Dede (‘mother’ in Svan) is a drama that begins in 1992 during the war with Abkhazia, and it flags the persistence of archaic violence in the region, and also its magnificent Nature and rough trails, which the film brings into its narrative.
