The murder of a Kist is bestowed on a neighbour Khevsurian village. Refusing revenge, the Kists mark the death as a symbolic end to the thousand-year-long tension between the two people, one Muslim and the other Christian. Until a Khevsurian is in turn murdered… The film addresses the conflicting Caucasus reality from the perspective of the civilising work of the new Soviet authority in contrast with the practices of the tsarist regime.
