The Berlin trilogy revisited (Bildnis einer Trinkerin, Freak Orlando, Dorian Gray im Spiegel der Boulevardpresse). The director juxtaposes documentary footage of cityscapes and architecture with iconic fragments of her films that had been made within these spaces. For instance, according to Ottinger, Freak Orlando “contains an industrial architecture that spans around 150 years”. What’s interesting, then, is how Berlin, a place that is already mythical, accrues a new mythology through the artist’s work, which makes us see these locations in a new light.
