Rift Finfinnee

A journey through the periphery of Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital. In strictly composed landscapes and architecture shots, and with a soundtrack that interweaves the original conversations in a complex way, the film follows the Akaki river gorge, dissecting the more than symbolic rift between city and rural. It takes the concrete geography, architecture and everyday life of agricultural and construction workers in the east of Addis Ababa (“Finfinnee” in Oromo) as the starting point for an allegorical narrative about the becoming urban of an African society on the edge of civil war.
