Constellation: The challenges of film co-production: asymmetries between countries

This table presents cases of co-production between Portugal and the Benelux countries, as well as other co-productions between different countries. It considers different funding models, economic imbalances and opportunities for collaboration.

In partnership with Creative Europe Desk Portugal and with support from the Film Fund Luxembourg, Flanders Image, SEE NL and Wallonie Bruxelles Images.

The session will be held in English, with no translation. Free admittance.

Ivo M. Ferreira

(director)

Ivo M. Ferreira is a Portuguese filmmaker who studied in Lisbon, London, and Budapest, and worked extensively in Macau. He directed Letters from War (Berlinale, 2016) and Empire Hotel (2018), and is developing the series Sul with Arquipélago Filmes.

Manon Bovenkerk

(producer)

Manon Bovenkerk is a creative producer with a focus on first and second feature by international directors. Her films are screened and awarded internationally at Berlinale, Locarno, Sole Luna Doc, DOC NYC, Hamptons IFF and Documenta Madrid.

Thomas Hakim

(producer)

Producer and co-founder of petit chaos, Thomas Hakim has produced 13 short films screened at Berlinale, IFFR, Clermont, IndieLisboa, and CPH:DOX, as well as three feature films: A Night of Knowing Nothing (Directors’ Fortnight 2021 – Œil d’Or), All We Imagine as Light (Cannes 2024 – Grand Prix), and Hair, Paper, Water… (Locarno 2025 – Golden Leopard)

Nuno Fonseca is an Advisor for International Affairs and Policy at the ICA. He deals with film policy issues, coproduction and financing and has a wide experience in advising producers and evaluating projects. He is also a professor at the ESTC.
