An investigation into how contemporary documentary cinema can engage with music beyond illustration or representation. The project explores disjunction, duration, and the distance between image and sound as forms of cinematic relation.

Modernism has come to an end, and it has been that way for some time now. Criticism lacks objective criteria on which to proceed. The hypothesis of this project is that it is possible to derive other criteria for criticism from the work of Arthur Omar.

Luís Miguel Oliveira
Critic, programmerHas a degree in media from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Nova University of Lisbon. Has been a member of the Cinemateca’s programming department since 1993, of which he is currently in charge. Has been a film critic for Público since 1994. Has collaborated with various specialised publications and teaching institutions, and has been a jury member at various film festivals, including IndieLisboa, Luso-Brazilian Film Festival and PlayDoc.
Pablo Marín
Critic, programmer, professor, filmmakerPablo Marín is a writer, professor and filmmaker. As an independent researcher and curator, he has presented programmes on Argentinean cinema in North America and Europe, and currently he curates the series Confesionario at Cineteca Madrid. He has translated books by Jonas Mekas, Stan Brakhage and John Waters, among others, and his volume on Argentine experimental cinema Una luz revelada. El cine experimental argentino was published in 2022.
