Growing with Cinema

In partnership with Os Filhos de Lumière and the National Plan for the Arts, the 21st edition of Doclisboa comprises a training workshop for teachers and educators, which includes sessions with the CinEd platform and one Doc Escolas sessions, expecting film to generate pedagogical tools to develop curricular content.

OCT 14 (sat) / from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, Goethe Institut

Session with the teachers and cultural mediators
Brief notion of what cinema is from the cinematic creation point of view. Presentation of the site of the pedagogical programme One Hundred Years of Youth. Introduction to the pedagogical programme CinEd: site and platform, the collection, pedagogical tools. Methodological way of preparing a screening, the discussion at the end of the session and what to do before and after the screening.

OCT 14 (sat) / from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm, to be defined

Session with the teachers and cultural mediators
Screening of a film from the CinEd collection, exposing the methodology in practice (before and after the screening). Dialogue around some of the topics addressed in the pedagogical notebook such as the cinematic issues, or the relation the film has with other arts or with the school subjects.

OCT 18 (wed) / from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, Cinemateca Portuguesa – M. F. Ribeiro Cinema

Meeting with the teachers, cultural mediators and students
Screening of a film from the CinEd collection in a theatre (film #1). The coordinating filmmakers put forward a few suggestions before the screening to get the students involved and arouse curiosity and willingness. At the end of the session, filmmakers and teachers question the students about what touched or interested them the most, watching over and over again specific moments of the film, and getting them to figure out for themselves what the film had to say from a cinematic perspective.

OCT 27 (fri) / 2.00 pm, São Jorge 3

Session with teachers, cultural mediators and students
Screening of a Doclisboa film in the scope of Doc Escolas (session 12). The methodology stays the same with a few suggestions before the screening (using sounds and images). At the end of the session, there will be a discussion about the film based on what was thought of in the beginning and what the students are invited to reflect upon. One will start looking for links to the first watched film and a few basic topics from the pedagogical notebooks. Discussion about the film issues at stake in the film.

NOV 11 (sat) / from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, Goethe Institut

Session with teachers and cultural mediators
Intermediate assessment of the work carried out and the results of the teacher’s autonomous work with their students in the classroom. Further development of issues that may be less clear or present more difficulties. Overview of every pedagogical tool shown initially and discussion about its actual usefulness and use by the teachers. Proposal of assessment to be made with the students concerning the work carried out.

NOV 22 (wed) / from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, Goethe Institut

Screening of a film from the CinEd collection in a theatre (film #3). Further development of the work that has been carried out comparing the three films.

Session with teachers and cultural mediators
Teachers account for the work carried out autonomously and show what has resulted from it. Discussion about everyone’s work and experience during the process. Pointing out of guidelines for an individual reflexion on the work carried out during the training.
