Alone with War

Seule avec la guerre

Danielle Arbid

“Beirut is a magnificent city. One would say it is at the centre of everything. In Beirut there was a civil war from 1975 to 1990, that is to say everyone was trying to exterminate everyone. Today, the war has ended. It stopped one day, just like that, after destroying our lives. I wanted to shoot the void it left. Its ghostly presence. That wound” (Danielle Arbid). For fifteen war years, the misery psyche involved killing not to kill. The key issue Danielle Arbid raises in this ghostly incursion is: What kind of peace can we have after a war?
