Austrian loner Peter Schreiner (1957-2023) created an unparalleled universe (as did his friend Michael Pilz). Tage is his last work, made during a battle with cancer, although it is not a diary of illness, but a very Schreinerian experience of pure cinema, a stream of consciousness where the favourite tree in the garden, the face of a life-long partner and a discussion with a friend about King Hu constitute the meaning of life. Hinted by Pasolini’s quote about the passage of time, Tage has a profound connection to the last shot of Vai-e-vem by João César Monteiro.
