Nam June Paik: Moon Is the Oldest TV

Amanda Kim

Father of video art and coiner of the term ‘electronic superhighway’, Nam June Paik was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Born in Japan-occupied Korea, he studied classical music before moving to Germany and becoming a member of Fluxus, which created new forms of art and performance. In the USA, he became fully engaged with TV and video art, revolutionising how the world thinks of image-making in the electronic age. Kim tells his remarkable story as a citizen of the world and innovative artist, who both saw the present and predicted the future with astounding clairvoyance.
