Szestowica’s inhabitants form a strong community. During the Russian occupation, their houses were demolished, belongings stolen, and their loved ones remain on the frontlines. Although military actions are no longer being conducted in the village, the war is as present in their lives as ever before. They do their best to simply live and work. Adults take care of the fields. Children play with dogs and prance among ruins. They make an effort to ignore the war collapse, when explosions reach the village and yet another person is being brought back home in a simple wooden coffin.
