In Where Life Holds, Aude Fourel films Monica Maurer at work, directing crucial documentaries about the Palestinian struggle between 1977 and 1982. She is bound together with her friend, Cahide Ozel, by images—the ones Cahide misses and the ones Monica patiently restores. They share a belief in one people, and in the political construction of the present, and the quest for a place to build a fragile memory, resisting oblivion. Preceded by Maurer’s Land Day, a study about the systematic efforts to disperse and destroy the audiovisual memory and collective identity of Palestinians.
