American writer Siri Hustvedt will be in Lisbon today at FLAD for a conversation as part of the “Meet the Author” series, dedicated to her latest book, Ghost Stories. It is in this context that we are pleased to announce that the world premiere of the biographical film Siri Hustvedt – Dance around the self (2026) will take place at the upcoming edition of Doclisboa, to be held from October 15 to 25, as part of the Heart Beat section.
Recognized as one of the leading voices in contemporary literature, Hustvedt’s work continues to span fiction, essays, and reflections on memory, identity, and imagination. While her appearance at FLAD offers an opportunity to encounter an author whose writing has uniquely traversed diverse artistic and intellectual realms, the same can be said of Sabine Lidl’s film.
The feature film, produced by Vinca Films and presented worldwide in the Panorama section of the 2026 Berlinale, traces Hustvedt’s personal and literary journey and her world, set between the American Midwest in the USA and New York. Like the author’s new book, this is a work about love and loss, exploring more than 40 years of life shared with writer Paul Auster (1947–2024); the film also accompanies this farewell.

German filmmaker Sabine Lidl’s filmography includes portraits of Henry Hübchen, Nan Goldin, Emma Thompson, Paul Auster, and Doris Dörrie.
Across its various sections, Doclisboa reaffirms itself as a space for discovery, dialogue, and reflection on contemporary cinema, bringing together film, art, literature, and diverse ways of observing reality.
