“In the spring of 2016, I left Tokyo, where I had lived for three years, and I moved to Tottori after accepting a job at its university. Within the prefecture, there are only three movie theatres: in the eastern, central, and western region of Tottori. As an independent filmmaker, researcher and writer about films, this was a big problem. Where is cinema? Where do we go to experience it? I went to the streets in search of the screens.
