MUTZENBACHER

Ruth Beckermann

Published in 1906, the novel Josefine Mutzenbacher or The Story of a Viennese Whore, as Told by Herself has been the subject of controversy for its lustful depiction of child and female sexuality. Director Ruth Beckermann conducts a cinematic experience, casting several men aged between 16 and 99 and confronting them with excerpts from the text. This film explores how the novel continues to be the subject of passionate and controversial discussions about desire, eroticism and sexuality, evoking not only personal memories and erotic fantasies, but also reactions of denial and rejection.

Director Ruth Beckermann will be present at the screening.
