Anerca, Breath of Life

Anerca, elämän hengitys

Markku Lehmuskallio, Johannes Lehmuskallio

Markku Lehmuskallio has been making films about Indigenous people since the 1970s. Together with his son he revisits his oeuvre, creating a poetic assemblage about the worldview of those whose ways of life, inherited from their ancestors, have been crushed. “Anerca is from Inuit language and means the soul, the breath of life. The aim is to find a cinematic means of expression which shows the joys and pains of those depicted through image, sound and editing. This film strives to create a change in the spectator, to allow them to sense the full spectrum of life’s diversity” (Markku Lehmuskallio).
