Anna

Anastasia Lapsui, Markku Lehmuskallio

The first film signed by both directors tells the story of a woman from the Nganasan, an endangered people from the Taymyr Peninsula. In her childhood, Anna featured in a Soviet documentary as an example of a kid in the process of assimilation. Later, she would go on to serve as a teacher and a functionary of the Communist Party. The year is 1996: Anna is looking back on the past, on the images of her in an old film, the dissolution of the USSR, and the disappearance of her people’s culture. A compassionate portrait of one person, but also of the twentieth century; a rhyme with the works by Žilnik and Alexievich.
