Round table: A Dance to the Music of Time – Paul Leduc Retrospective. Reassessing the author’s work

In collaboration with Cinemateca Portuguesa, Doclisboa presents the first European retrospective of the Mexican filmmaker Paul Leduc (1942-2020). This round table discusses the impact and significance of his work, a key reference of Latin-American cinema.

In partnership with Cinemateca Portuguesa and FICUNAM, and with support from the Embassy of Mexico in Portugal.

The session will be held in English, with no translation. Free admittance. Tickets must be collected on that day at the venue.

Speakers

Astrid Villanueva Zaldo

Independent audiovisual and archive researcher. Studied aesthetics and art theory in Mexico and film curating studies in the Basque Country, where she currently resides. Has worked on exhibitions, publications, performing arts projects and documentary films in Mexico, the United States, and Spain. Collaborates with the Mexican photography magazine Luna Córnea and is a correspondent for the Argentine film magazine La vida útil.

Maximiliano Cruz

Artistic director of FICUNAM since 2021. Has more than fifteen years of experience as curator and organiser of film festivals, including Mexico City, Cali, Guadalajara and Riviera Maya. In 2010, together with Sandra Gómez, founded the promotion label Interior XIII. Has written about cinema in several publications, and is co-editor of several books. Juror at festivals. Advisor and curator of the film programme at the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín since 2015.

Boris Nelepo (retrospective curator)

Boris Nelepo is a critic and programmer, member of the selection committee at Doclisboa since 2021. He curated retrospectives of Želimir Žilnik, Peter von Bagh, John M. Stahl, Marlen Khutsiev, Pierre Léon, Věra Chytilová, Raquel Chalfi, Ulrike Ottinger, and Anastasia Lapsui & Markku Lehmuskallio, among others. He has written for different publications including Trafic (France), MUBI (USA), Cinema Scope (Canada), Cahiers du cinéma (France).
