International Competition

Crista Alfaiate

Had artistic training at Teatro da Comuna, Lisbon Theatre and Film School and Stella Adler Center for the Arts. Has worked as an actress with creators such as Paula Diogo (Má-Criação), Jorge Andrade (Mala Voadora) and Jorge Silva Melo (Artistas Unidos), Miguel Loureiro, Constanza Mackras and Filipe Hirsch. As far as film goes, stand out her participations in works by Manuel Mozos, João Nicolau, João Botelho and Miguel Gomes.

Eryk Rocha

Born in Brazil, trained in Cuba. His first film, Rocha que voa, was screened in Venice, Rotterdam and Locarno, among others. Among his films, he highlights Campo de Jogo, Breve Miragem and Edna, which received several awards at renowned festivals. Cinema Novo (2016) won the Golden Eye award at Cannes in 2016. In 2024, he released A Queda do Céu, co-directed with Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha, which premiered in Cannes – Director’s Fortnight.

Luciana Fina

Italian filmmaker and visual artist born in Bari, in 1962, and working in Lisbon since 1991. Curator of film programmes and editions for Cinemateca Portuguesa, and researcher at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon. Directed her first documentary film in 1997, joining the generation of filmmakers who have breathed new life into documentary cinema in Portugal. Her films and installations are regularly presented at international film festivals and exhibitions.

Luís Miguel Oliveira

Has a degree in media from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Nova University of Lisbon. Has been a member of the Cinemateca’s programming department since 1993, and was its director from 2009 to 2015. Has been a film critic for Público since 1994. Has collaborated with various specialised national and international publications and has been a jury member at various film festivals, including IndieLisboa, Luso-Brazilian Film Festival and PlayDoc.

Richard Peña

Emeritus professor of film and media studies at Columbia University, specialised in film theory and international cinema. Was the programme director of Film at Lincoln Center, and the director of the New York Film Festival. Organised retrospectives and film series devoted to the world’s cinema. Visiting professor at Princeton, Harvard and Sorbonne. Also taught at the universities of Beijing, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and at the Gedai Art Institute (Tokyo).

Carlos Gutiérrez

Co-founding executive director of Cinema Tropical, the leading presenter of Latin American cinema in the USA. Has curated for institutions such as MoMA, Film at Lincoln Center, Guggenheim Museum, BAM Film, and Anthology Film Archives. Artistic director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s Latin Wave film festival. Co-director of Cinema Tucsón. Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Juror for various international film festivals.

Cláudia Dias

Choreographer, performer and teacher. Artistic director of the cultural association Sete Anos. Member of the collective Ninho de Víboras. Did her training at Academia Almadense, Lisbon Dance Company and Forum Dança. Attends the master’s degree in scenic arts at Nova University of Lisbon, Worked with Re.Al, Espaço do Tempo and Alkantara. Taught at the Olga Roriz Training. Nominated for Best Choreography Award by the Portuguese Authors Society in 2013 and 2017.

Rada Šešić

Festival programmer, lecturer, critic and director. Collaborated with the Amsterdam and Rotterdam film festivals for 20 years. Head of the documentary competition at Sarajevo Film Festival and co-head of Docu Rough Cut Boutique. Teaches at the master in film in Amsterdam and is artistic director of the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival in The Hague. Mentor in many workshops in Europe and Asia. Her films have been shown in over 60 festivals.

New Talent Award

João Onofre

Portuguese visual artist. Has a masters in fine arts from the University of London and a PhD in contemporary art from the University of Coimbra. Has exhibited individually at MoMA PS1, the Joan Miró Foundation and the Palais de Tokyo, among others. Has taken part in numerous international group exhibitions, including the 49th Venice Biennale. His work is part of several institutional collections, such as those of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the Centre Pompidou.

Marcia Mansur

Born in Rio de Janeiro, has a doctorate in anthropology (UNICAMP) and a post-graduate degree in arts administration from the New York University. Has been heading Doc’s Kingdom – International Seminar on Documentary Film since 2023, and has 18 years of experience collaborating with institutions such as Vídeo nas Aldeias, RioFilme, UnionDocs and British Council. Co-founded Estúdio CRUA. Combines cultural heritage and archives in films and interactive installations.

Miguel Faro Artista baseado em Lisboa que

Lisbon-based artist who works with moving image and photography. His work operates within the political dimensions of lived experience. Continuing the work started with Downhill, is currently working on several moving image installations that are the result of a long process of intimate follow-up with groups of different ‘subcultures’ that are also connected by a specific geographical location—a central square in Lisbon.

João Brito

João Brito is the coordinator of Electra magazine, a publication of the EDP Foundation, and has been running BCF publishing house since 2017. He holds a law degree from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Mercedes Moncada

Documentary filmmaker focusing on creation, teaching and public cultural policies. Was the subject of retrospectives at the Spanish Cultural Centre (2012), Ourense Film Festival (2017) and Atlantic Film Festival (2006). Her films have been screened in cinematheques and numerous festivals around the world, being awarded several times. Has been a jury member at various festivals and competitions. Vice-president of the Spanish Documentary Film Association.

Wioleta Klimaszewska

Communication specialist. Working at the Central Institute for Labour Protection, Warsaw, Poland. Responsible for cooperation with the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and for the promotion of safety and health at work. Has a degree in library and information science from the University of Warsaw, and a post-graduate degree in social communication and media, cultural studies and PR from the London School of Public Relations.

INATEL Foundation Award

André Valentim Almeida

Teaches at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School. Editor and director, his films have been shown at various national and international festivals, such as Doclisboa, IndieLisboa, Visions du Réel, FIDMarseille, Jihlava, DOK Leipzig, CPH:DOX, DMZDocs and MoMA, among others. Won the Doc Alliance Award in 2014 for his documentary A Campanha do Creoula and was one of the directors selected for the “Gulbenkian and Portuguese Cinema” programme.

Maria João Madeira

Has a degree in social communication from the Nova University of Lisbon, having had film courses at the Belgian university of Louvain la Neuve in 1992. Works as programmer at Cinemateca Portuguesa – Museu do Cinema, focusing on organising film programmes, writing texts and publishing. Has also written about cinema in other contexts, and regularly works as a translator, especially of films.

Ricardo Viel

Born in São Paulo, in 1980. Journalist, has a master’s degree from the University of Salamanca (Spain). Has been working at the José Saramago Foundation since 2013, and is currently its communication director. Writes for several Brazilian and foreign publications, co-edited the biographic album Saramago, os Seus Nomes, and authored the books Um País Levantado em Alegria, Sobre a Ficção – Conversas com Romancistas and La Revolución Amable.

Brais Romero

Producer and distributor (Ferrol, 1990). Recently created La Machina, a distributor that seeks to enhance cinema made with heart and guts. Produced the documentaries Te separas mucho and Fomos ficando sós. Coordinated the School of Cinematography and Audiovisual of the Community of Madrid’s La Distribuidora for over two years. Doctor in communication and contemporary information with a thesis on the relation between film and the Galician language.

Karla Quintero

Panamanian producer, cultural manager and social communicator. Studied advertising and marketing, and digital video production (Panama), as well as film production, and cultural administration and management (Buenos Aires). Managed and produced cultural projects with Panamanian and Argentinean artists and institutions. Was in charge of industry and programming at the International Film Festival of Panama for seven years, and is its current executive director.

Maximiliano Cruz

Artistic director of FICUNAM since 2021. Has more than fifteen years of experience as curator and organiser of film festivals, including Mexico City, Cali, Guadalajara and Riviera Maya. In 2010, together with Sandra Gómez, founded the promotion label Interior XIII. Has written about cinema in several publications, and is co-editor of several books. Juror at festivals. Advisor and curator of the film programme at the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín since 2015
