A fictional journey through the history of Ibero-America through its music and dance. Inspired by Alejo Carpentier’s novel Concierto barroco (1974), this film—arguably Leduc’s most ambitious effort—opens his speechless musical trilogy. Divided in four movements, it rejects linear development of time and history, offering a metaphorical odyssey, where Cuban War of Independence, Spanish Civil War and the conquest of the Aztec Empire overlap and are reflected in operas by Vivaldi and Graun, dedicated to Montezuma. A fresco that offers a different view on the past, art and its language.
