The paths of a Brazilian prospector, an Argentinean journalist, a Brazilian policeman and an American tycoon (Mr. X, played by Peter Fonda) cross in this fiction film, based on five short stories by Rubem Fonseca, Leduc’s only film in the 21st century. His merciless gaze is directed to violence of globalization, showing unity of all things in a contemporary world. Leduc was always attentive to visual media, and some of his reflections about digital and surveillance images are not so far from those by Tony Scott. Finally, the music of Tom Zé is an essential antidote.
