Four years after the dictatorship, television looks like democracy. A journalist whose job is to hold power accountable is sleeping with the mayor she should be reporting on, and the compromise happened so gradually, she did not notice the distance she travelled. Then a woman the system chewed up and discarded appears and makes the compromise impossible to sustain. She tells the truth at the end, not heroically, but because she has run out of energy for the lie, which is more honest than the form usually allows. This is Brocka’s last completed film.
