Nebulae presents its third edition, for the first time in a hybrid format

Nebulae, Doclisboa’s space for industry, will hold its third edition, between 21-31 October 2021, for the first time in a hybrid format. Film professionals from all over the world will meet again in Lisbon between the 21st and 25th of October, during which the on-site activities will take place. To make sure everyone can participate, online activities will run until October 31st.

In the first two editions, Nebulae already welcomed more than 1000 film professionals, representing  more than 70 countries – ensuring the presence of paramount institutions and film festivals and configuring this space as one of the most outstanding in the international map of cinematographic nonfiction.

After an edition in which online activities contributed to the rapid expansion of different territories and to an increase in numbers and diversity of participants, Nebulae presents a hybrid structure. On-site activities will take place between the 21st and 25th of October, with live streaming and/or recorded sessions. Until October 31st there will still be a series of activities exclusively online. This edition will work with a digital platform, in partnership with WYTH, where it will be possible to access all online events and selected projects from Croatia – Invited Country and Arché programme (12 projects from Portugal, Spain and Latin America to be announced soon).

In collaboration with the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, we announce the range of Croatian projects in development that will present their work in a pitching session on 22 October.

There are nine projects from Croatia to which we have added two projects that will represent the invited countries of the two previous Nebulae editions: Germany and Georgia.

The list of selected projects is available here.

Following the focus on Croatia, the Invited School of the Green Years section will be the Academy of Dramatic Arts of the University of Zagreb, one of the most important film schools in that country. We will screen a  programme of 16 films building a retrospective on the school’s filmography from the 1970s to the present day. Simultaneously, the Academy supports the Green Years section’s top award, offering the winner an intensive period of mentoring at its premises.

In other news, State of the Art returns to Nebulae. Organized in partnership with Creative Europe Media Desks, the programme aims at bringing filmmakers, producers and distributors closer to spaces associated with contemporary art that have also developed consistent work in film programming. By doing this, we hope to encourage a dialogue between cultural agents,  art galleries and museums from different countries, fostering the development of new collaborations.

Once again, Nebulae will host the Filmmaking Seminar, organized in collaboration with UnionDocs Center for Documentary Art, which will be attended by the winners of the 2022 UNDO Fellowship. The Seminar (for selected participants) will take place between the 23rd and 26th of October, in a hybrid format. The aim of this activity is to explore radical cinema practices and the expanding languages of documentary cinema. Each day will feature the screening of films, followed by a work session conducted by one of the scholarship holders. Applications for the Seminar will be open from September 1st to October 1st.
