Filmmaking Seminar

Applications for the Filmmaking Seminar are now open!

The Filmmaking Seminar is back in this edition of Nebulae. The programme is designed in a collaboration between Doclisboa and UnionDocs Center for Documentary Art that highlights the soon-to-be-announced recipients of the 2022 UNDO Fellowship. The goal of this gathering is to explore radical filmmaking practices and the expanding languages of documentary cinema.
From October 23rd to 26th, morning screenings will be followed by afternoon dialogues, each led by a different scholar or writer, and each engaging a discrete question of representation that is at the center of the fellow’s yearlong research. Participants will immerse themselves in these provocative inquiries, deeply considering the complex films of formally adventurous documentary artists, and will be encouraged to share their ideas, experiences, and perspectives in breakout groups, roundtable discussions, and short creative exercises.

The call for applications is open from September 1st to October 1st, 2021. To apply, please fill the online form available here.

Price: free, subject to a selection process.
Maximum number of participants: 40 (20 in-person, 20 online)

The seminar will be held in a hybrid format in person at the festival and online and in English, with no translation. In-person participants are encouraged to bring a personal computer.

The application process includes the submission of:
– Biographical note;
– Note of intent;
– Link to application video: upload to Youtube or similar platform (unlisted link, without password) an original video of up to 3 minutes in length, filmed and edited by the candidate. The topic is free, but the video should demonstrate a personal and creative approach to cinematographic language. It must be subtitled in Portuguese or English if it contains dialogue or narration in another language.

If you have any questions regarding the application process, please write to industry@doclisboa.org
