Six months after the end of the war, the film drafts an engaged portrait of a newly-independent Algeria facing the immense task of social and economic reconstruction. The country is portrayed through its rural and urban voices, bearing the scars of colonialism and the threat of OAS (Secret Armed Organisation) terrorism, but fully committed to the pursuit of a fair and peaceful future. The film was censored both in France and Algeria.
