Paul Leduc

Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela. A woman working in a Caribbean cabaret meets a man in the harbour that just got out of jail. They recognize in each other common feelings of fury and fall in love. A naturalistic novel, Santa (1903), by Federico Gamboa, became the source for the first Mexican sound feature, Santa (1932), then a second adaptation (1943) was signed by Norman Foster. Leduc turned this seminal text into a parable about the descendants of African and Indigenous people, a nocturnal dance where songs, sounds, gestures and glances replace words. They are not needed to express rage.
