Macho Dancer

Lino Brocka

Bodies under neon. The hunger of a young man from the Cordillera leads him to Manila’s tourist belt and learns the work. The shower dances run past titillation into something harder to name—eroticism as labour, repetition, transaction. We, the audience, become the clientele. Aroused, we are implicated. Bored, we are still implicated. A missing sister. A policeman who does not police but administers. Allan Paule. Jaclyn Jose. The club will reopen under a new name. The routines will resume. They always do.
