Half a century later, Meilleurat casts Fanny Ardant as Marguerite Duras (her) and Basile Meilleurat (his son) as Gérard Depardieu (him), and tackles the screenplay for The Truck, “the representation of reading itself” (Duras). A film about the possibility of an encounter—between a woman hitchhiking and a lorry driver, between theatre, literature and cinema, between generations, between actors, between filmmakers and between the possibilities of cinema—in a vertigo that takes the cinematic bull by the horns with the certainty that “that cinema should fall into ruin is the only cinema possible” (Duras).
