Le Camion

Marguerite Duras

Sitting at a table, holding a script, Marguerite Duras and Gérard Depardieu read a dialogue, the story of a woman who addresses the truck driver that picked her up from the side of the road. Shots of a truck travelling the roads without a visible driver appear regularly. The truck? The possibility of communism. The film? “It would be a film. It is a film.” For the conditional tense and the present tense to swap, for an hypothesis and its effectuation to be presented as a single tangible event—that is without a doubt something unique in film history.
