A Thousand Suns

Mati Diop’s journey back in time takes him to a cult film, Touki bouki, made in Dakar in 1972 by his late uncle, Djibril Diop Mambéty. The plot was simple: a couple in love dream of paradise in Paris. One embarks on an ideal journey into exile, the other decides to stay. In this other journey to which Mati Diop exposes herself, the history of her family, the history of cinema, the history of Senegal too intertwine, carried by Magaye Niang, the protagonist at the time, to the point of bringing back the characters and the famous buffalo-motorbike from 40 years ago.
