On the top floor of a high-rise building, dubbed The Long Sorrow (Die Lange Jammer) by the inhabitants of a modest district in the suburbs of Berlin, a great many things happen. We don’t want to reveal any of them, because each event is so magical in its own way. Suffice it to say that the protagonists include a splendid tracking shot, a horizontally-opening window, hair and flowers, trees, the sound of a church bell and an aeroplane. And maybe there’s an angel on the sax, blowing the wild notes of free jazz: Jemeel Moondoc.
