The furniture that has been in the building since the 1970s has been stacked and is waiting to be removed. The modular elements of the floors and ceilings are resisting as they are being torn out. The congress building Sava Centar embodied a vision of the future for international, non-aligned, socialist Yugoslavia. However, after the country broke apart, this modernist landmark of New Belgrade was neglected by the state. In 2020, it was privatised, and reconstruction began. Like many of the younger workers, Nenad is there for the first time, detached from its past and the society that built it.
